Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians (abbreviated MI) is an Indian Premier League franchise based out of Mumbai and play their home matches at Wankhede Stadium. Established in 2000, MI have won five IPL titles – and boast the best record ever seen among IPL teams, only trailed by Chennai Super Kings in terms of IPL wins.

At the outset of IPL 2019, Mumbai Indians was widely seen as a powerhouse squad, featuring players like Sachin Tendulkar (their star player), Robin Uthappa, Dwayne Bravo, Sanath Jayasuriya, Shaun Pollock, Lasith Malinga, and Harbhajan Singh among their ranks. Tendulkar missed most of the tournament due to a groin injury and was replaced by batting specialist Quinton de Kock and wicketkeeper-batsman Ambati Rayudu as well as spinners Lasith Malinga and Mitchell McClenaghan. Mumbai Indians got off to a slow start in IPL 2017, yet eventually won nine out of their last ten league stage matches to advance to playoffs and ultimately take home the trophy with an emphatic win against Chennai Super Kings in the final.

Mumbai Indians enjoyed four excellent IPL seasons under Rohit Sharma as one of their key forces. Batting performances were outstanding while Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya’s power-hitting and death bowling skills provided winning runs to their side. Unfortunately, 2022 proved their worst finish as they finished last out of ten teams.

But in subsequent seasons, they found form and won back-to-back IPL titles. In 2019, Mumbai Indians overcame Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at qualifier 1 round to make playoffs despite having a lower net run rate (NRR), before beating Delhi Capitals by 57 runs in final to capture second title – and finally Rohit Sharma led MI to victory against Delhi Capitals again at final stage with high scoring encounter. Thus surpassing Chennai Super Kings on number of IPL finals played and most wins with six!

Rohit Sharma should return to form, and their team boasts an excellent balance between youth and experience players – including top bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar – making for an exciting match-up this season.

Suresh Raina has been one of the most consistent players in IPL history. His team is known for its solid batting lineup and outstanding fielding – which have enabled them to dominate competition. Their seamers, especially Mohammad Siraj and Muthiah Muralidaran, pose serious threats for opponents.

Chennai Super Kings boast an incredible batting line-up led by Ravindra Jadeja and Imran Tahir that gives them an advantage in IPL competition. These veteran players, such as Mohammad Asif and Dwayne Smith, can turn any match into an intense contest.

According to estimates, EMV valued the team at approximately $800m at the time of their deal valuing them – testament perhaps to their successful marketing operations which have increased viewership of international television audiences and attendance rates at IPL matches over recent years.

Rajasthan Royals have been regular playoff contenders since their introduction in 2009. They reached the final in 2013 and 2015 but lost each time to Mumbai Indians. Unfortunately, in 2022 and 2023 the Supreme Court banned them for two seasons for involvement in a betting scandal and thus prevented their participation.

At first, RR was dominant, winning four out of the first five games. Unfortunately, in subsequent matches they found it more difficult to remain consistent, managing just two victories out of their final four matches and ultimately falling into fourth place due to Kolkata Knight Riders defeat in their rain-affected eliminator match.

Jos Buttler was an absolute star performer for Rajasthan Royals this season. His 42-ball 71 against Delhi Daredevils set an IPL record, while also equalling Virender Sehwag’s record for consecutive fifties with five in succession.

Gujarat Titans boast a competitive home schedule with seven games at Sawai Madhopur Stadium and one away against Delhi Capitals – in one key matchup against them that could decide the runners-up spot this year – at Sawai Madhopur stadium; they face competition from Gujarat Titans who won both qualifying rounds this year to finish runners-up in both.

After an underwhelming start to their tournament campaign, Royal Challengers Bangalore managed to turn things around by showing a remarkable second half performance in which they won four out of their last five matches – two big victories against KKR and DD being key wins. Chris Gayle’s incredible batting prowess led them to record one of the highest team totals ever recorded at an IPL game at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium: 263/5 against Pune Warriors India!

RCB had an improved batting attack as well as an impressive bowling attack featuring Mohammad Amir, Kulwant Khejroliya, Colin de Grandhomme, Mohit Sharma Heinrich Klassen Shimron Hetmyer Prayas Ray Barman and Nathan Coulter-Nile among their ranks. These impressive bowlers helped propel them to make it to playoffs where they fell to CSK in Eliminator round.
